Original Medicare does not include drug coverage. If you do not have creditable drug coverage from an employer, union, or another source you will need to pick up drug coverage from a private company. This can be a stand alone prescription drug plan (PDP) or a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage (MAPD). If you go without coverage for more than 63 days, you will have to pay a Part D Late Enrollment Penalty.
